Hulu has nabbed the half-hour dramedy QUEEN from RuPaul and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for development. Set in New York City in the Reagan era in the 1980s, the series is a fictionalized version of RuPaul’s rise from club kid to drag queen, gay icon, and global star.
The project is penned by Power executive producer Gary Lennon. World of Wonder produces, having also produced RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Warner Bros. TV, where Bad Robot is based, is the studio. RuPaul executive produces with Abrams, Ben Stephenson, and World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato.
The addition of Queen to Hulu’s development slate continues the relationship between Bad Robot and the streaming network, having previously teamed up on the limited series 11/22/63, based on Stephen King’s book. They also have the King adaptation of Castle Rock as a series in the pipeline.
