Sam Esmail to Write and Direct Bermuda Triangle Movie for Universal

Mr. Robot creator is attached to direct a new take on Universal’s long-gestating  that he’s set to write for the studio, the Tracking Board has learned.

Earlier drafts of the project were written by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, as well as Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, though Esmail will be putting his own spin on the treacherous Bermuda Triangle, where numerous planes have gone missing over the years.

Given the other Bermuda Triangle projects in the works around town, including one at Skydance from director Sam Raimi, Universal is understandably keeping plot details surrounding Esmail’s take under wraps.

(The Batman) is producing via his eponymous Universal-based production company, while Esmail will produce under his  banner along with . Millar and Gough will serve as executive producers.

Universal executives Jon Mone and Jay Polidoro will oversee the project on behalf of the studio, while will oversee on behalf of .

Esmail created USA’s hit cyberpunk thriller series Mr. Robot, and Amazon just ordered two seasons of his new series Homecoming, which will star Julia Roberts. He previously wrote and directed the indie movie Comet starring Justin Long and Emmy Rossum, and he also recently executive produced Laura Poitras’ Julian Assange documentary Risk.
