British funnymen Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are launching their new film and TV production company Stolen Picture with the comedy-horror flick SLAUGHTERHOUSE RULEZ. The film, which Pegg and Frost will executive produce, hails from director Crispian Mills based on a script co-written with Henry Fitzherbert.
The film’s hero is Don Wallace, a boy from a modest background who finds himself trying to navigate the complicated and esoteric rules of the elite boarding school he attends, which reinforces class hierarchies. However, when a frack site causes massive tremors and a sinkhole on the grounds of the school, an abominable horror is unleashed and suddenly a new pecking order at the school is established.
Based on the synopsis, the film seems like the perfect amalgamation of horror thrills and comedy to suit Pegg and Frost, whose creative partnership is primarily known for their roles in Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy, consisting of the films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End.
Charlotte Walls of Catalyst Global Media will produce and Sony Pictures‘ international arm is backing the project, the Tracking Board has confirmed, with Josephine Rose executive producing for the studio.
Laine Kline, EVP, Business Affairs and Operations, Sony Pictures International Productions expressed enthusiasm about the project, saying: “Charlotte Walls has done an incredible job developing and packaging this picture. We couldn’t be more excited about working with Crispian, Nick and Simon as they push the boundaries of this genre in a showcase for their respective talents.”
“We are thrilled that Simon and Nick haven chosen Slaughterhouse Rulez to be the first chapter in their exciting new venture,” said Diego Suarez, SVP, Sony Pictures International Productions. “They and Catalyst Global Media are tremendous creative partners and we can’t wait to show their fans what they have up their sleeve.”
Most recently, Pegg reprised his role as Scotty in last year’s Star Trek Beyond and his sci-fi comedy film Absolutely Anything was released in the US on May 12. Next up he’ll be seen in Mission: Impossible 6 and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. He’s repped by UTA and Dawn Sedgwick Management in the U.K.
Frost appeared in last year’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War after appearing in the first film. He has a regular role on AMC’s Into the Badlands and recently wrapped on Fighting With My Family alongside Dwayne Johnson. He’s repped by UTA and Think Tank Management.
