Robert Lawson has been named Chief Communications Officer at Sony. Charles Sipkins previously held the position, but stepped down shortly before the height of the major studio hack that occurred at Sony late last year, which revealed personal information to public, including company emails. The hack also led to former Co-Chairman Amy Pascal stepping down from her position. Lawson worked successfully to contain the disaster, and has become close with the studio in the wake of the hack occurring. He was the logical choice for the position to the execs at the studio. Lawson previously worked for Rubenstein, where he ran the crisis PR division.

In regards to Lawson joining Sony, CEO Michael Lynton stated,

Bob comes to SPE after serving as an executive VP at the strategic communications firm Rubenstein and having worked closely with SPE over the last several months as a consultant. His corporate communications experience in the entertainment space and in other sectors has been enormously helpful to us and we look forward to expanding our work with him across the breadth of the SPE business.”
