Emerging talent Corey Hawkins is in talks to join Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson in Legendary’s action tentpole KONG: SKULL ISLAND. Up-and-comer Jordan Vogt-Roberts is helming the pic, based on a script from Tony Gilroy, John Gatins, and Max Borenstein.
Plot details are far and few, though it’s been tossed around that the action/adventure will follow a team of explorers setting off to the unknown Skull Island, where they encounter 8th wonder of the world King Kong and a slew of strange new creatures and mysteries. J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton were previously attached to star, but had to bow out due to scheduling issues.
Hawkins’ breakout role in Legendary NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, where he portrays Dr. Dre, is already receiving early buzz and accolades before its release on August 14th. Hawkins, a recent Julliard graduate, can also be seen on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Previously, he’s held roles in Allegiance, Non-Stop, and Iron Man 3.
Hawkins is repped by ICM and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
