Elle Fanning and Susan Sarandon join Naomi Watts in THREE GENERATIONS. The drama centers on a single mother, who lives with her mother and her mother’s girlfriend, is forced to confront past mistakes while supporting her 15-year-old daughter’s decision to undergo gender transformation. Watts will play the single mother, while Fanning will be the teen transitioning from female to male. Sarandon has been cast as Watts’ mother, Dolly, a music manager who struggles with her granddaughter’s decision. Gaby Dellal is directing from a script penned by Nikole Beckwith.
Once known only as Dakota’s little sister, Fanning has come in to her own as an actress after roles in Super 8, We Bought a Zoo, and Maleficent. Most recently, Fanning has appeared in indie drama Young Ones with Nicholas Hoult and has lent her voice to the animated feature Boxtrolls. Her upcoming roles include playing Nikola Trumbo in the biopic Trumbo, as well as playing Zan in John Cameron Mitchell’s sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls at Parties.
Sarandon’s most notable films include Thelma and Louise, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Dead Man Walking. Lately, she has starred in comedies like Tammy and Ping Pong Summer. Next up, Sarandon has signed on to star in Paul Duddridge’s drama Mothers Day with Christina Ricci and Sharon Stone and will play Marilyn Monroe’s mother in the Lifetime TV movie Marilyn.
