Action-horror series VAN HELSING has won itself a second season order from Syfy just four episodes into its freshman year. The new season is expected to begin production in early 2017.

The show from Nomadic Pictures follows Vanessa Van Helsing, played by Kelly Overton, a descendant of the legendary vampire hunters who awakens from a three-year coma to learn she’s immune from vampires and actually able to make them human again. The rest of the cast includes Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Cubitt, Vincent Gale, Rukiya Bernard, Trezzo Mahoro, Aleks Paunovic, Laura Mennell, Tim Guinee, and Paul Johansson.

The new series fits in perfectly with the brand Syfy has established over the past two years as they’ve found success with other female-led actioners such as Wynonna Earp and Killjoys. Both of those shows quickly drew attention on social media that grew into strong followings.

Nomadic is the studio of Van Helsing in addition to producing, with Syfy as co-producer. Nomadic’s Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev are executive producing with writer and showrunner Neil LaBute, Simon Barry, Evan Tyler, David Brown, Zadoc Angell, and Daniel March. Dynamic Television is handling worldwide distribution outside of the first run in US and Canada.
