CONVICTION Review: “Past, Prologue and What’s To Come”

Conviction ExcerptSeason 1, Episode 13 – By finally featuring a central case that’s largely background noise, “Past, Prologue and What’s to Come” manages to show off a level of both series’ continuity and character development that Conviction had not previously achieved. If only the other 12 episodes had been this good.

CONVICTION Review: “A Simple Man”

Conviction Excerpt Season 1, Episode 7. This week, the Conviction team re-opens the case of a man with diminished capacities convicted of arson, as documentary team films their investigation. For a show that loves to be controversial, this episode really doesn’t have much to say.

CONVICTION Review: “#StayWoke”

Conviction ExcerptSeason 1, Episode 6 – The accidental death of an African-American boy, shot by a cop, sparks a racial firestorm and leads Hayes and her team to re-examine a controversial case. The best part of this episode is honestly that Hayes herself is in so little of it – and several secondary characters, particularly Merrin Dungey’s Maxine are given a chance to shine.

CONVICTION Review: “The 1% Solution”

Conviction Excerpt Season 1, Episode 5 – Fallout from her shocking interview has the CIU investigating a case that pits the haves vs. the have-nots, as Hayes attempts to make amends to her mother, Jackson and Wallace. If we all just accept that this show is a soap opera instead of a serious drama, it’s kind of fun.

CONVICTION Review: “Dropping Bombs”

Conviction ExcerptSeason 1, Episode 3 – The third episode of legal drama Conviction does some of its best character work yet, as the CIU team divides over a case involving a controversial and disturbing defendant. If you can ignore the incredibly contrived ending to this week’s case-of-the-week plot, it’s probably the show’s most intense episode to date.

CONVICTION Review: “Bridge and Tunnel Vision”

Conviction ExcerptSeason 1, Episode 2 – The second episode of new legal drama Conviction has many of the same problems as its first. The show still can’t seem to decide what kind of character it wants its leading lady to be, and much of the episode’s case-of-the-week plot felt predictable. However despite its flaws, there’s still something appealing at the heart of Conviction, and star Hayley Atwell continues to shine.
