Season 5, Episode 11-The Americans track down an elderly Nazi sympathizer. Stan treats Henry to a tour of his FBI building as Henry prepares to leave for St. Edwards. Oleg finds incriminating evidence in Fomina’s office but she warns them the corruption exceeds the KGB’s reach. Elizabeth saves Philip from a decision he doesn’t want to make.
Season 5, Episode 10 – The Americans push the Morosov’s to the edge of despair while Stan and Aderholt deliver on their good-life promise to Sofia. Pressure builds in Oleg’s household as he fears those targeting him and his new suspect doesn’t show any evidence of criminal behavior. Paige discovers how Pastor Tim really thinks of her and wants him out of her life.
Season 5, Episode 9 – The Americans surveil one of their own and Philip suspects the U.S.S.R. deployed William’s bioweapon against their Afghan enemies. Oleg gets questioned about Stan and Nina, and he makes progress in his food corruption case. Agent Wolfe gives Stan a new reason to seek revenge for Gaad’s murder and reconsider his Oleg decision.
Season 5, Episode 8 – The Americans take time off from their fake Kansas affairs and discover one of their targets has a little side action of her own. Oleg is ambushed by a KGB team searching for something they think he has while Stan and Aderholt make Sofia the deal of her lifetime. Paige continues her lessons in Beth-Fu.
Season 5, Episode 7 – The Americans travel to Mississippi to steal some super-wheat and Elizabeth catches Ben in action. Paige frees herself from the Beeman next door while Stan’s integrity pays off at work. Elizabeth snatches an important file for the KGB and Gabriel reveals a little about his past and leaves advice about Paige’s future.
Season 5, Episode 6 – The Americans change the goal of their grain mission and Elizabeth gets an easy new target. Philip asks Gabriel for details about his parents and the Jennings’ take Paige to meet Gabriel in person. Mischa returns to his old life in Russia while Oleg makes an arrest in his corruption case and burns his CIA contact.
Season 5, Episode 5 – Noah Emmerich directs The Americans with a lot of love and Elizabeth makes a few big revelations on her deep cover mission in Kansas. Oleg faces a lovely ambush set by his father and decides to meet with the CIA. Mischa places a call to Philip but it’s Gabriel who shows up for the meet and greet.
Season 5, Episode 4 –The Americans get assigned a couple of single targets in Kansas but one of them plays hard to get. Mischa gets very close to meeting Philip. Paige conducts her own rogue espionage operation. Oleg gets a break in his corruption investigation and reveals his dangerous situation to his mother who gives him perfect advice.
Season 5, Episode 3 – The Americans break into a secret Oklahoma lab, building their case of a United States sponsored grain-terror plot to starve the Russian people. Oleg investigates food shortages in Moscow and receives an extortion tape form the CIA. Paige uses her new emotional control trick while out on a date with Matthew and Mischa works his way through the Iron Curtain.
Season 5, Episode 2 – The Americans keep watch on Alexei Morozov as he travels to secret farms in Illinois. Stan has a couple dates with his new love interest but gets pressure from the CIA to help recruit Oleg in Moscow. Elizabeth and Philip show Paige how to keep her head while she’s getting intimate with Matthew.
Season 5, Episode 1 – The Americans return with a new mission that requires a new son, meanwhile Paige still causes concern as she pursues her relationship with Matthew Beeman. Oleg returns to the Soviet Union and begins his new job and Philip’s estranged son goes on the run. Someone makes a deadly mistake while digging up William Crandall’s corpse.
William fights to the end and Arkady gets expelled from the United Sates in the heartbreaking fourth season finale of The Americans.
It’s pretty clear how Elizabeth would handle the gorilla but Paige wonders if a knife-wielding rapist really had to die on The Americans.

The Americans feel the strain of doubt when Pastor Tim goes missing in Ethiopia and Frank Gaad is killed while on vacation in Thailand.
Philip loves his down time but Elizabeth gets restless as The Americans get a dramatic reminder they are in the end-of-the-world business.
Matthew Rhys rotates his incredible skills behind the camera and bruises the rules directing an artful, emotionally charged episode of the The Americans.

Martha feels tremendous pressure as Stan and Aderholt move closer to discovering “The Rat” for The Americans. It’s only a matter of time before Stan drops the cuffs on Martha.
“Clark’s Place” is the saddest, loneliest space for The Americans. Now that Nina is gone, the full dramatic heat is beating down on Martha. These people seem to get crushed on the show by slow, uncaring, political machines.
The writers of The Americans kill off one of their spectacular darlings in a cruel twist. Fans lose a favorite and thirst for revenge.
Nothing gets resolved in this solid bridge/building episode. The writers seed several storylines for future episodes. They hint at impending doom for Nina and an investigation into Martha.
The Americans plan an accident for “Pastor Tim” while trying to avoid a deadly disaster with the bio-weapon they keep in the basement. Elizabeth sees the friction between Philip and Stan.
The Americans risk their lives and The Glanders when they get their new mission and deal with fallout form Elizabeth’s trip to Germany. Television has never seen such a field of talent and people successfully pushing the boundaries of long form narrative.
