The two friends first appeared together in Paul Feig’s blockbuster comedy Bridesmaids and they’ll also appear in Warner Bros.’ Life of the Party due out next summer. Their new comedy centers on a detective who teams up with a puppet to solve a murder.
Set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist, the film follows two clashing detectives — one human and one puppet — who are forced to work together to try and figure out who’s brutally murdering the former cast of “The Happytime Gang,” a beloved classic puppet show.
STX Entertainment and the Jim Henson Company may have found their lead for The Happytime Murders as Jamie Foxx is in early negotiations to join the film. The film is a hybrid of live-action and puppets.
Logline: In a world where humans and puppets coexist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens, someone is killing off the former puppet case of an 80’s TV series, and it’s up to one disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet, to kick his drinking habit, and reteam with his former human partner, to solve the case.
