Empire star Taraji P. Henson is set to star in WHAT MEN WANT, a twist on the Nancy Meyers comedy What Women Want starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. The project hails from Paramount Players with Will Packer, James Lopez, and Henson producing.
What Women Want followed Mel Gibson as a sexist advertising executive who develops the ability to hear what women around him are thinking. In the gender-swapping update, Henson stars as a sports agent who has been constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When she gains the power to hear men’s thoughts, she is able to shift the paradigm to her advantage as she races to sign the NBA’s next superstar.
The announcement comes during a year of growing conversations about audiences desire for more female-driven stories to the big screen. Other gender-swapping remakes currently in the works are Overboard starring Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Anne Hathaway.
Henson can currently be seen in the Fox drama Empire and was last seen on the big screen in Hidden Figures. She next stars in the actioner Proud Mary and will lend her voice to Wreck-It Ralph 2. She is represented by UTA and Vincent Cirrincione Associates.
