Offers are out for the hot new political drama BREAKING NEWS, about a group of journalists involved with the British Military in Afghanistan who are trying to break the story of death by friendly fire. Dennis Quaid and Diane Lane have been offered leads, along with Jessica Biel for a supporting role. The script is penned by newcomer Derek Lister, and the attachment of any of these stars to the currently independent film would be enough to push it right through development and probably land a sweet distribution deal.
Quaid has been keeping his career alive with supporting roles in big budget features, and this may be a great opportunity to regain the spotlight as a leading man. He’s currently been in “GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra,” “Legion,” “Footloose,” and “Playing for Keeps.” Diane Lane has fared a little better with a huge career resurgence thanks to “Man of Steel,” but has always kept herself on the radar, starring in films like “Jumper,” “Nights in Rodanthe,” and “Secretariat.”
Jessica Biel, the youngest of the bunch with probably the biggest profile, was also in “Playing for Keeps” along with Dennis Quaid. She was one of the only “WB teens” to successfully make the transition to a stable film career following her famous role in “7th Heaven.” She was recently in “Hitchcock” with Anthony Hopkins and “Total Recall” with Collin Farrell.
Bill Kenwright Films is producing, and the production is scheduled to be shot in the UK itself. No word yet on who is directing, but producers Jenny Seagrove, Bill Kenwright, and Naomi George should be set if any of these three actors take the bait. Stay glued to the Tracking Board to find out what these big names decide to do.
