EXCLUSIVE 〉UTA, CAA and more fought over Gilberston before WME pulled out all the stops.
I’m hearing that WME has just signed emerging writer Adam Gilberston, who’s making waves with his hot action/sci-fi spec Override, which hit the market out of nowhere this week. Multiple agencies and reps were scrambling to land the writer, who was still unrepped when the spec went out. Just Wednesday night, he signed with Industry Entertainment, who was quick to rep the writer following the impressive buzz.
The spec, which has become 2015’s hottest, is already into a handful of major territories including Dreamworks, Lionsgate, Paramount, and Sony. Chris Morgan of Chris Morgan Productions brought the project into Universal, per his first-look deal. Mike Esola is now running point on the project for WME.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that the spec quickly became in fierce high-demand, making the creative force behind it a highly sought-after talent. Gilberston was just yesterday taking meetings all over town and was swiftly courted by major agencies, including WME, UTA, and CAA. I’m hearing that WME is now prepping and packaging the spec and taking it out to even more territories.
The action/sci-fi spec’s plot details are being kept locked down tight, but it’s described as a futuristic Fast and Furious. The high-concept project is natural blockbuster franchise potential, which is the reason why it’s excited studios so promptly.
