Fran Kranz is set to lead the cast of BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS, a comedy/horror film by improv and writing group “Dr. God,” an up and coming group of writers, actors, and directors. The film is pitched as “The Office” meets “Shaun of the Dead” in which a down-on-his-luck cubicle worker must deal with the horrible reality that everyone in his office is turning into vampires. Produced by Fortress Features and MTY Productions, this is sure to raise the visibility of the “Dr. God” comedy group, and bring us a slew of good laughs in the meantime.
The project is helmed by “Dr. God” member Brian O’Connell, who has written and directed indie comedy shorts along with numerous web series for his group. They are working off a script originally penned by Ryan Mitts and Justin Ware. The addition of Fran Kranz has stabilized the project and pushed it through its final stages of development, along with other cast members Meagan Good and John Higgins, who are finishing up negotiations for the film.
Could these guys be the next “Broken Lizard,” the comedy group that has brought us the likes of “Super Troopers,” “Club Dread,” and “Beer Fest”? They definitely have the potential, and their touring comedy group is sure to add fuel to their fire as they gain visibility. I mean, I’ve never heard of them before, but maybe they do deserve attention! Broken Lizard has all but disbanded, and wouldn’t it be great if these guys could fill their place and bring us more of those bombastic, ensemble comedies?
