Samuel L. Jackson and and Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson are attached to star in the silver screen adaptation of BLACK NATIVITY, the original stage play created by Langston Hughes in 1961.
The story centres on a troubled African-American boy from the inner-city raised by a single mother, who is sent to his grandparent’s house for Christmas and learns the importance of family and faith. Jackson will play the grandfather, Rev. Clarence Cobb, and Hudson is attached to portray his daughter, the single mother. Kasi Lemmons penned the script and will direct the pic. The stage play made its on-Broadway debut at New York’s Lincoln Theatre in 1961.
Fox Searchlight will distribute the musical with Bill Horberg, Celine Rattray, Galt Niederhoffer and Daniela Taplin Lundberg to produce. Joy Goodwin will executive produce.
Hudson was last seen in “Think Like A Man” and was recently cast in “Lullaby” opposite Garrett Hedlund, Amy Adams, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard and Jessica Brown Findlay.
Jackson will next be seen in “Django Unchained” where he re-teams with director Quentin Tarantino. He is currently in production on the animated pic “Turbo” for DreamWorks Animation.
Jackson is repped by ICM and Anonymous Content. Hudson is repped by CAA.
