Hugh Grant is the latest target on Sony’s list to tackle the lead role in the upcoming remake of ANNIE starring Willow Smith.
The film, which still has Craig Brewer loosely attached to direct, is set to be produced by Smith’s father, Will Smith, along with James Lassiter and Shawn Carter. Said to be focusing more on the original 1977 musical, the film is still progressing toward a planned 2012 start date even though the studio is looking for a final polish on the script before production. Another potential snag could be Brewer’s schedule.
Grant, who was rumored as a favorite for the role even before the script made it his way, was most recently seen in the lame release “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” and has another handful of films in development, including the rumored return to the “Bridget Jones’ Diary” series.
On a personal note… am I the only one missing a little Grant from my life? Come on, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “About a Boy”, “Love Actually”… where’d you go Hugh?
Grant is repped by CAA.
