The Launch Pad Manuscript Competition Presents…
Title: THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT
Logline: With only a graphic novel inspired by her little sister’s kidnapping to her name, a struggling artist moves to New York in order to pursue her dream of getting the work published. After she is rejected by all but one publishing house, she becomes roommates with an ex-con harboring secrets of a similarly dark past, and the two team up on the graphic novel, attempting to help one another overcome their respective traumas in the process.
Pitch: NEW GIRL meets DARK PLACES
Writer: Emma Scott
Genre: Drama | Romance
Why to Read: Rather than becoming bogged down with the irrelevant mystery of the protagonist’s missing sister, this manuscript looks positively to the future by using that violence as a canvas upon which to paint a more hopeful story. The lead characters are bold and endearing, with their emerging romance and friendship providing an emotional core to the story that is refreshing in how unconventional it is. In addition, the protagonist’s graphic novel provides a ton of opportunity for tie-in books and spin-off material, as well as an intriguing visual style for a potential adaptation.
