The Complete List of 2017 WGA Award Winners

Last night, simultaneous ceremonies took place in New York and Los Angeles for the 2017 Writers Guild Awards, with some exciting titles taking home the top prizes, including Arrival and Moonlight for film and The Americans and Atlanta for television.

Step out of the way La La Land and Manchester by the Sea, because neither film, both of which have won numerous screenplay awards this season, took home prizes last night. Instead, Barry Jenkins won Best Original Screenplay for Moonlight and Eric Heisserer won Best Adapted Screenplay for Arrival. Normally, this would be more interesting in the increasingly intense race between Moonlight and La La Land in numerous categories, including screenplay, except at the Oscars, the films will be in different screenplay categories, unlike last night. Still, Moonlight‘s win over the modern Los Angeles musical film does continue to give it traction in all categories leading up to the Oscars this weekend.

On the small screen, Atlanta took home prizes for both Comedy Series and New Series, continuing its winning streak that it’s been enjoying all season. On the drama side of things, FX’s The Americans, which has oft been overlooked on the awards circuit, won its first WGA Award.

See the complete list of winners below and be sure to check out our Oscars state of the race analysis.
