“The Grudge” Reboot In the Works From “Eyes of My Mother” Director Nicolas Pesce

The Grudge Nicolas Pesce

After directing the excellent low-budget horror movie The Eyes of My Mother, has been hired to rewrite and direct a reboot of THE GRUDGE for Sam Raimi’s , the Tracking Board has learned.

The Tracking Board emailed Pesce’s reps multiple times last month to confirm his involvement in the project, though none of our inquiries were returned.

Raimi is producing the Grudge reboot with Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise, while Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will serve as executive producers.

Sarah Michelle Gellar starred in the two English-language Grudge movies, which were based on Takashi Shimizu’s Japanese horror movie Ju-On. The 2004 film grossed $187 million worldwide, though audiences appeared to hold a grudge against its 2006 sequel, which grossed only $70 million worldwide.

The Grudge reboot comes on the heels of The Ring reboot Rings, which performed better overseas than at the domestic box office. The jury is still out regarding the return of J-horror, but regardless of whether or not this reboot is a good idea, Pesce is an exciting choice to direct, as The Eyes of My Mother made my skin crawl and haunted me for weeks.

Pesce recently wrapped the psychological thriller Piercing starring Mia Wasikowska and Christopher Abbott. He’s represented by , and Nelson Davis.
