THE HIT LIST

THE HIT LIST is an annual list that has existed in small talk, memo, gossip, facsimile, journal, email, and simple rumor since the blossoming days of the film industry. However, before 2010 it has always been left where it began, and shared closely, only amongst friends. The Hit List, is quite simply what you, personally dictate as your favorite item of topic. Whether it be music, film, novel, or any other medium, The Hit List is what dictates your taste, and your choice as to what is to be deemed the best. Now, we are taking the list public.

SPEC /spĕk/
-idiom
On spec, made, built, or done with hopes of, but no assurance of payment or sale.”

The Hit List exists to celebrate SPEC SCRIPTS. By focusing exclusively on specs, this list aims to bring recognition to the new material that enters Hollywood, with an eye towards celebrating fresh ideas, new voices, and the emerging talents that make up the largest gambling circuit in all of Hollywood – The Spec Market.

To be eligible for the list, a screenplay must have been released into the spec market between December 1st and November 30th. To be considered a spec, a screenwriter must not have been paid for their work prior to exposing their script to the market. To make the list, at least seven voting members needed to vote for the spec.

The Hit List is voted on by a judging panel which is nominated by a board of Development Executives, Producers, Writers, Agents, Managers, Directors, and Assistants. To be part of the judging panel, any voting member  must have been employed within the film industry, and had to be nominated, and voted for approval by those nominated before them. This organic process allowed an unbiased, and writer friendly vote, based on the expansion to those who are reading these scripts first, and those who are considered to represent the “Taste” of Hollywood.

Before you continue, please bear in mind that the difference between the million dollar sale and the unsold sample is rarely a judge of one being better than the other, but instead can be seen as talent meeting opportunity on a roll of good luck.

I hope you enjoy our list.
