Gothic thrillers set in Victorian England are not a film genre we see very much of these days, but anyone even remotely interested in Jack the Ripper and his ilk will be excited to watch the first trailer for THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM, the adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s 1994 murder mystery novel, Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem.
Adapted by Jane Goldman — whom we hope to have an interview with sometime very soon — the movie, directed by Juan Carlos Medina (Painless), stars Bill Nighy as Scotland Yard detective John Kildare, who thinks he’s been set up as a scapegoat when he’s put on the case of a brutal serial killer known as “The Limehouse Golem,” who leaves messages using his victim’s blood. Kildare enlists the help of a witness to one of the murders, played by Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), as he explores one possible suspect, a musical star named Dan Leno (Douglas Booth).
The Limehouse Golem will be released by RLJ Entertainment on September 8 in select cities and on demand. It will open in the UK, Ireland and Germany one week earlier.
