After months of rumor and speculation, the new DOCTOR WHO is about to be made official. BBC has announced the identity of the 13th Doctor will finally be revealed on Sunday.
In a video, the network revealed the announcement will happen Sunday afternoon (UK time), following the conclusion of the Wimbledon Men’s Final on BBC and BBC America.
Fans have been clamoring for the identity of the new Doctor ever since Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor, announced he was leaving the show in January.
Among the rumored names are Kris Marshall, Luke Treadaway and Sacha Dhawan. Fans hoping for a female Doctor – indeed, the first female Doctor in the franchise’s decades-long history – may have to wait a little while longer as recent reports indicate early names like Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Tilda Swinton and Miranda Hart are out of contention after producers decided to once again focus on a male Doctor.
In addition to Capaldi, showrunner Steven Moffat is also leaving the show after shepherding it since 2010. He will be replaced by Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall.
