Universal / Legendary
If there’s any doubt Stephen S. DeKnight’s upcoming sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising is going to be very different from Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 movie, then the first trailer released by Universal and Legendary Pictures at the New York Comic-Con panel for the movie should make it more obvious.
This one stars John Boyega of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Attack the Block as Jake Pentecost, one of the pilots of the giant robot Jaegers who has to defend the earth from the Kaiju or giant monsters that have been invading. Taking place ten years after the previous movie, this time they have to face a VERY large Kaiju, bigger than the biggest Jaeger.
It’s the feature film directorial debut by DeKnight, who made his bones writing, producing and directing shows like Angel, Smallville, Dollhouse, Spartacus and most recently, Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil.
Written by DeKnight with T.S Nowlin, Kira Snyder and Emily Carmichael, Pacific Rim: Uprising also stars Scott Eastwood and Tian Jing (The Great Wall) as well as returning cast Burn Gorman, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is scheduled for release on March 23, 2018.
