It’s what Netflix and Marvel Entertainment have been building up to, ever since it was announced that their specific section of the Marvel Universe — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist — would be joining together to create MARVEL’S THE DEFENDERS. Starting tomorrow, all eight episodes of the first season of Netflix and Marvel’s super-group will air on the streaming network.
Starring Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones, the stars of the original series are joined by Sigourney Weaver as the group’s new nemesis, named simply “Alexandra.” Much of the supporting cast from the individual series also appear in the new The Defenders series, including Elodie Yung, Jessica Henwick, Rosario Dawson, Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie-Ann Moss, Simone Missick and Scott Glenn.
Marco Ramirez (Daredevil Season 2) is the showrunner and executive producer of the show, working alongside Douglas Petrie, Jeph Loe and Jim Chory, all of whom have been involved with previous Netflix – Marvel series. Likewise, the new show is produced by Marvel Television along with ABC Studios.
The final trailer shows the Defenders all together confronting Alexandra, as well as some idea of the action to expect. The first season streams on Netflix on Friday, August 18.
