Tom Rothman has inked a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to succeed Amy Pascal, former Chairman of SPE’s Motion Picture Group. The change comes in the wake of the Sony hack and the Interview scandal that lead to Pascal’s departure.

Prior to the announcement, it was assumed by many that the role would go to either Doug Belgrad or Micahel De Luca. The former of which spent the last 25 years working diligently for the studio while demonstrating his financial know-how, while the later is a highly successful producer who helped bring the screen the likes of Austin Powers, the Rush Hour franchise, The Social Network, Moneyball and Captain Phillips.

The announcement brings to an end Rothman’s stint as head of Tristar. Prior to that, Rothman held a 12 year tenure with 20th Century Fox which brought to theaters blockbuster hits such as Avatar and Titanic
