“Tramps” Trailer Boasts the Kind of Energy That Can Only Be Found in New York City (Video)

I missed many movies at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, but the one I left kicking myself over was ’s , which hits Netflix this Friday, April 21.

Callum Turner (Green Room) stars as an aspiring chef whose hustler brother asks him to complete a job for him. It all seems simple enough — meet a driver with a briefcase, proceed to a rendezvous spot and exchange one briefcase for another. But Danny swaps the wrong bag, sending him and the driver Ellie (Grace Van Patten) on a two-day odyssey through New York City.

Leon’s stepmother is veteran publicist Leslee Dart, but don’t assume his $2 million Netflix deal was born out of nepotism. Leon cut his teeth on the acclaimed indie Gimme the Loot, and Netflix made an aggressive push to acquire Tramps at Toronto, where it earned strong buzz.

Tramps co-stars comedian Mike Birbiglia and also boasts original music from Nicholas Britell, the Oscar-nominated composer of Moonlight, so that’s two more reasons to watch right there!

Seriously though, this trailer pulses with the kind of energy you only find in New York, and both Turner and Van Patten appear to give eye-opening performances here. I look forward to catching up with this one before the end of the month.
