Garland’s wife, Paloma Baeza, will make her feature directorial debut with the film, which follows an American family who move into an old Victorian house in London and begin to believe it might be haunted.
Garland will produce the family-friendly film alongside Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich and Cara Speller. Variety broke the news and Baeza told the trade that The Toymaker’s Secret will “join my love of animation with a live-action world,” thus indicating some kind of hybrid project.
TriStar reportedly beat out several other suitors for the spec, due in large part to Hannah Minghella’s enthusiasm for the project, which she will oversee for the studio along with Nicole Brown.
