ABC has given the green light to pilot SCRUPLES, with producers Tony Krantz and Natalie Portman on board. The series is based on the 1978 best-selling book by Judith Krantz, who also penned a sequel in 1993, and centers on a rich and powerful clothing designer in a world of sex, revenge and scandal. Bob Brush and Mel Harris wrote the adaptation and executive produce with Portman, her producing partner Annette Savitch and Krantz.
CBS has given the go-ahead to pilot the UNTITLED CK/FERESTEN COMEDY PROJECT that has been in the works for over a decade. The idea comes form the minds of Louis CK and Spike Feresten. The multi-camera comedy follows an ensemble of young people trying to achieve their creative dreams in these tough financial times.
FOX has given the green light to pilot two new medical series, a comedy from “The Office” co-star and producer Mindy Kaling, UNTITLED MINDY KALING COMEDY PROJECT, and a drama, UNTITLED BERMAN/WRIGHT DRAMA PROJECT, from duo Josh Berman and producer Rob Wright. Additionally, the network has picked up to pilot the half-hour comedy EL JEFE from Moses Port and David Guarascio.
- Kaling wrote the single-camera comedy, in which she stars as a young Bridget Jones-type ob/gyn doctor balancing personal and professional life, surrounded by quirky co-workers in a small office. She will executive produce with Howard Klien.
- The Berman/Wright project centers on a female Chicago doctor who is forced to work with the mob. Michael Dinner is on board to direct.
- Port and Guarascio, also from Sony TV, is about an upper-middle class 30-year-old guy who finally gets booted out of his dad and step-mom’s house and moves in with his cleaning woman’s family since he had nowhere else to go.
Oscar-winning documentary-maker Davis Guggenheim has been tapped to direct CBS’ drama pilot WINDOW DETECTIVE. The series centers on a decorated police detective who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes surrogate husband, lover and father to their families.
