THE MISSIONARY, a Cold War spy drama set in Germany, might be heading to the tube as HBO has given a pilot order to the show. Created by Charles Randolph, the show is about a young American missionary who gets caught up in the world os espionage. Stephen Levinson, Malcolm Gladwell, and Mark Wahlberg will be producing.
NBC has an early pilot order out for THE SECRET LIVES OF HUSBANDS AND WIVES from Jerry Bruckheimer Productions and Warner Bros. TV. Based on the Josie Brown novel, the Sascha Penn-created series will be a soapy thriller revolving around a murder and three families connected to it.
Cancellations
Showtime has announced that WEEDS will end its run on the pay cabler after eight seasons. The Mary-Louise Parker-starrer, created by Jenji Kohan, also stars Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon.
Deals
Alex Gansa has signed a two-year development deal with 20th Century Fox TV. The “Homeland” co-showrunner will remain on as executive producer for the Showtime series, as well as develop for the network and Fox’s network channel. Gansa has also worked on “The X-Files” and “24.”
Carla Kettner, of “Bones,” will transition to new drama “The Mob Doctor” after signing a two-year development deal with Sony Pictures TV. She will serve as executive producer on the Fox show and develop new projects on side.
