Upcoming Netflix Comedy “Step Sisters” Gets a First Trailer (Video)

Charles Stone III’s upcoming comedy Step Sisters had a few problems with distribution–Broad Green Pictures was going to release it in March before it was pulled from the schedule–but Netflix then stepped in to release the college comedy starring  Megalyn Echikunwoke (Vixen), and the streaming network has released the first trailer for the movie.

Directed by Stone, whose credits include Drumline and Paid in Full, and written by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People), the movie stars Echikunwok as Jamilah Bishop, a collegiate over-schiever on her way to Harvard Law School, who is also captain of her step dance crew.  When she’s assigned by her school’s dean to teach rowdy white sorority Sigma Beta Beta how to step, Jemilah finds herself caught between her own sorority and the new team she’s training for the upcoming “Steptacular” competition.

The film co-stars Matt McGorry, Naturi Naughton, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Marque Richardson, Eden Sher, Lyndon Smith, Gage Golightly, Nia Jervier and Alessandra Torresani. The film is produced by Emmy-winner Lena Waithe (Master of None), Ben Cory Jones (Insecure) and Matt Alvarez (Straight Outta Compton), along with Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman. Patrick Murray, Josh Reinhold and Hayward are the film’s EPs.

Netflix will stream the film starting Jan. 19.
