WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (6.16.14) — “22 Jump Street” Jumps to the Top of the List
0This weekend’s two new sequels, “22 Jump Street” and “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” took the top two spots, with “Jump Street” in the lead (though not by a whole lot). Meanwhile, “Edge of Tomorrow” finally overtook “The Fault in our Stars” in weekend earnings, though “Fault” still outpaces “Tomorrow” by about $25 million overall. And “Maleficent” finished out its third week in third place.
The big releases for next weekend are “Jersey Boys” and “Think Like a Man Too.” Kind of a low-key weekend, compared to the last two, and it probably won’t shake up the top five too badly–I expect “Jump Street” will keep the top spot, and Maleficent will drop to fourth, with the “Think Like a Man” sequel overtaking it. It might be the end of the run for “Fault” and “Tomorrow,” though, if “Jersey Boys” eeks out a fifth-place finish.
