Marvel Studios’ Black Panther continues to run rampant over all newcomers, as it grossed another $16.3 million on Friday. That should be good for $63 million or more in the blockbuster’s third weekend, which should be enough to bring it very close to $500 million domestic gross by Sunday.
20th Century Fox opened the spy thriller Red Sparrow, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton, in 3,058 theaters on Friday following $1.2 million in Thursday previews, bringing in $6 million Friday (including those previews). The movie should open between $16 and 17 million, which is lower than some projections but higher than others
MGM Pictures’ Death Wish remake starring Bruce Willis brought in $4.3 million Friday, including $650k from Thursday previews, so it should gross between $10 and 12 million in its first weekend.
The New Line comedy Game Night grossed an estimated $3 million on Friday, which should allow it a second weekend of $10 million.
That was followed in fifth place by Sony’s family film Peter Rabbit with $2 million, the $8.5 million it makes this weekend helping it to get closer to $100 million.
Paramount’s sci-fi thriller Annihilation took a plunge in its second weekend, taking in $1.5 million Friday on its way to $5 million for the weekend, down 55% from its opening weekend.
