After several years of being in development, an adaptation of WHEEL OF TIME, the high fantasy book series consisting of fourteen novels by Robert Jordan, the pen name of author James O. Rigney, Jr., is finally moving forward at Sony Pictures Television.
Rafe Judkins is attached to write and executive produce the series, which follows various protagonists in the country of Andor as they fight to find the Dragon Reborn, unite their forces, and defeat the Dark One. The first book, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990 and fourteen books followed, including a prequel, with the last book being published in 2013. When Jordan died in 2007, fellow author and fan Brandon Sanderson was brought in to complete the last three books.
Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures will produce alongside Sony. Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of Red Eagle are set to executive producer with Radar’s Ted Field and Mike Weber. Darren Lemke will also executive produce and Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, will be a consulting producer.
In April of last year, McDougal shared the news that “legal issues” had been resolved and an adaptation of Wheel of Time would be moving forward as a television series.
Judkins is no stranger to the television world. Previously, he has written for Agents of SHIELD, Hemlock Grove, and Chuck. He’s represented by CAA.
