Update 01.11.: Lucasfilm has confirmed that Harrelson will officially be in the Han Solo film in an unspecified role.
Following his characters in The Hunger Games, Zombieland, and even last year’s The Edge of Seventeen, Woody Harrelson is currently in talks to join Disney and Lucasfilm’s second Star Wars spinoff film centered around a young Han Solo as the mentor to Solo. According to reports, Harrelson is the studio’s top pick for the role.
The film is set to follow Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) on his adventures prior to A New Hope. Donald Glover is also attached to the film as a young Lando Calrissian and Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke has been cast in a mystery role. Presumably, a younger Chewbacca will also have a prominent role in the film.
The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing based on a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. Production is expected to begin this month aiming for a premiere date of May 25, 2018.
Rogue One, the first spinoff film under the Star Wars Story banner, has set the bar high with good reviews and a global box office intake close to $800 million so far.
Harrelson had a busy year in 2016, appearing in films like The Edge of Seventeen, The Duel, Now You See Me 2, and Triple 9. His slate of movies isn’t getting any smaller, either. Coming up he’ll be seen in Wilson, War for the Planet of the Apes, The Glass Castle, and LBJ as the former President. He’s also making his directorial debut with the experimental live film Lost in London.
He’s repped by CAA.
