We’re thrilled to announce that Monday, October 3, we will be releasing the 2016 Young & Hungry List, comprised of the 100 best up-and-coming writers in the business, as voted on by industry professionals.
Yesterday we took a look back at some of the 2013 Young & Hungry List writers, who have made tremendous strides in the industry over the past three years. Today, we proudly present the latest updates from some of the writers who made the 2014 Young & Hungry List. And don’t forget to check back on Monday for the release of the 2016 Young & Hungry List!
HERE ARE A FEW STAND-OUT HONOREES FROM THE 2014 YOUNG & HUNGRY LIST

Bryan Cogman, despite being a writer and co-producer on Game of Thrones, managed to find time to write a feature adaptation of Magic: The Gathering. Magic is currently in development at Fox, and Cogman has been announced as the writer for the upcoming live action Sword and the Stone feature. Staying on the fantasy train, he’s also writing an adaptation of The False Prince for Paramount. As if that weren’t enough, Game of Thrones also recently won Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys (again).
Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski landed on the list last year with their scripts Stephanie, Underground, and Super Dark Times, and they’ve gone on to make a big splash in Hollywood. Stephanie was acquired by Blumhouse and quickly went into production with legendary producer Akiva Goldsman as director at Universal. Underground, which the team scripted for Luc Besson based on one of his ideas, is in development at EuropaCorp, while they’re also working on a top secret horror project with Dark Knight scribe David Goyer. Plus, they’re staying busy with adaptations of Tag and A Head Full of Ghosts.
The scripts Winter’s Knight and Ghost by Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton earned them a spot on the 2014 list. Inspired by the L. Frank Baum book, Winter’s Knight is the story of how Santa Claus came to be, and is actively in development at Sony. Their action sci-fi script, The Wells Initiative, which explores the adventures of a young H.G. Wells before he wrote his well-known sci-fi stories is in development with Trigger Street’s Dana Brunetti. They are also penning the script for Thunder Agents as well as an Untitled Project with director Bryan Singer.
David O’Leary wrote a trio of magnificent sci-fi scripts which landed him on the list. One of those scripts, Missing Time, is currently in development with Offspring Entertainment.
A Garden at the End of the World from Gary Graham turned heads, enough so that shortly after making the list, Graham landed a job writing the reboot of the Will Smith blockbuster I Am Legend. Most recently, it was announced that Graham would officially be adapting the Philip Reeve sci-fi novel Rail Head, to be produced and directed by Edge of Tomorrow‘s Doug Liman.

Jac Shaeffer stormed onto the Young & Hungry list with her comedies The Shower, Soul Mates and TiMER. TiMER is available for viewing on Netflix and The Shower was picked up by Andrew Lauren Productions, with Anne Hathaway set as both producer and star. She is also writing Soulmates for Disney and the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake, starring Rebel Wilson.
Jeff Lock, who landed on the list with two scripts, has seen both of them move forward into the development process. Our Thing was optioned by Carousel Productions, where Steve Carell and Rodney Rothman have attached Max Winkler to direct. Carell will star with Jake Johnson and Warner Bros. has come on board as the studio. Meanwhile Beef is in the works with Marquee Entertainment. John Stalberg Jr. is directing, with Jude Law and Jon Bernthal starring.
Josh Golden, whose biography of Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, Road To Oz, became one of the most buzzed-about scripts in Hollywood last year, sold to New Line. It is currently in development at Flynn Picture Company.
Kristina Lauren Anderson made the list with her incredible period biopic Catherine the Great and Invisibility. The former is in development with Gil Netter, with Barbara Streisand attached to direct and Keira Knightley to star, and the latter is at Warner Bros. Anderson was also hired to write The Black Count, the latest project from Beast of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga, being produced by Michael De Luca. As if all that’s not enough, she’s also writing The Briefcase for Paramount and Life and Death in Eden at StudioCanal.

Catfish director Max Joseph made the list with the coming-of-age script We Are Your Friends, which he went on to direct last year. The movie, centered around EDM culture, stars Zac Efron and Wes Bentley. He also directed the documentary Good: Atomic Alert and continues his work on Catfish.
Mike Vukadinovich landed on the Young & Hungry list with some big name projects, including Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, which is now in development at Disney, The Three Misfortunes of Gepetto at Fox, and The Secret Ingredients of Rocket Cola, in the works with Escape Artists and Todd Black. Vukadinovich has also been brought on to write the feature film Exchange Student, with Matthew McCounaughey producing, and Pete and Goat, starring Amanda Seyfried.
Richard Hobley made waves with his scripts Raven Court, Limerence, Slumber, and The Lighthouse. Most recently, Kristen Connolly landed the lead role in Slumber, being produced by Goldcrest Films. Limerence is also in development and being produced by Joey Tuccio and Garrick Dion.
These are just a few of the remarkable success stories from the 2014 Young & Hungry List writers. The 2016 Young & Hungry List drops Monday! Soon we’ll have another 100 rising stars to track as they rocket towards success!
