Ok, that headline was a little ridiculous… but my God there is a lot of new news in this tiny story. So, let’s recap, then give you the sweet and tasty news. (FDA Warning: May include GODZILLA, Guillermo del Toro, and Peanuts).
- Step #1. Legendary Pictures acquires the rights to Godzilla with plans for a 2012 film.
- Step #2. Legendary Pictures buys a spec script from Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans) titled PACIFIC RIM, “set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.”
- Step #3. Legendary Pictures retrofits the PACIFIC RIM script into their planned Godzilla reboot, confirming the rumored presence of multiple monsters.
- Step #4. Legendary Pictures offers the director’s chair on the Zilla-fied Pacific Rim to none other than Guillermo del Toro.
So, yes… we now have confirmation that PACIFIC RIM is dead… because it’s actually becoming GODZILLA… which would in fact pair the numerous-times-over-rumored Travis Beacham and Guillermo del Toro (previously linked together for one of our all time favorite reads here at TB – KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW.
Lets be honest here. If anyone could bring us a Godzilla we’d love, there are few combos I can think of that would ever come close to what Del Toro and Beacham can deliver… in fact… it’s scary how amazing this could be!
