The first big sale out of Cannes is currently in the works with the Aaron Sorkin-penned drama MOLLY’S GAME. STX Entertainment is closing in on a $9 million deal for the poker drama starring Idris Elba and Jessica Chastain.
Based on the memoir, Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker by poker maven Molly Bloom, the film will be the award-winning screenwriter’s directorial debut. If the deal closes, STX will acquire the U.S. and China rights to the film.
The Mark Gordon Company and eOne are financing the film. Mark Gordon will produce alongside Amy Pascal of Pascal Pictures. Leopoldo Gout will serve as executive producer.
Sorkin’s most recent big-screen writing credit is the 2015 biopic Steve Jobs starring Michael Fassbender as the titular founder of Apple.
He is repped by WME.
