Model-turned-actor Abbey Lee is the latest name to be thrown into the ring for the highly-anticipated movie adaptation of Stephen King‘s THE DARK TOWER. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are also slated to star in the movie which will set up the massive franchise.
Sony Pictures is set to release the films and an accompanying TV series is being developed by Media Rights Capital. Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct and King will serve as a producer. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Erica Huggins of Imagine Entertainment as well as Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road will also produce.
Based on the popular series of books, the first installment of the franchise will focus on the first book, The Gunslinger, which establishes the relationship between the main characters Roland Deschain (Elba) and Jake Chambers. McConaughey is said to be playing the villain of the series, the Man in Black while Lee is allegedly being eyed for the female lead of Tirana. The character doesn’t appear in the series until the seventh book, but it is said she will pop up in the first film.
Lee recently starred in the Academy Award-nominated Mad Max: Fury Road. She can also can be seen in the upcoming adventure fantasy, Gods of Egypt and Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon.
