Whoa. I can already tell that 6 BALLOONS is going to make me cry, because I have two younger brothers, and I’m an absolute sucker for dramatic stories about brothers in peril.
Set over the course of one night, the film stars Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) as a woman who drives around Los Angeles with her heroin addict brother (Dave Franco) and his two-year-old daughter in search of a detox center.
Franco reportedly lost 20 pounds for the role, which promises to stretch his limits as a dramatic actor. The same can be said for Jacobson, another performer comfortable with comedy who could use a challenging role like the one featured here. This is new territory for both actors, and hopefully they rise to the occasion.
Marja-Lewis Ryan (Liked) wrote and directed the film, though it’s based on producer Samantha Housman’s experience with her own brother. Channing Tatum is also among the producers of the project, having worked with Dave Franco on 21 Jump Street.
Tim Matheson and Jane Kaczmarek co-star in 6 Balloons, which will pop up on Netflix on April 6. Watch the trailer below.
