ABC has picked up dramedy series FALSE PROFITS to pilot, the network announced Tuesday.
The hourlong project, from writer and executive producer Kayla Alpert, follows a team of down-and-out women in suburban Arizona as they fight their way to the top of the cutthroat world of a multi-level marketing cosmetics business.
Jason Reed and Sabrina Wind also serve as EPs.
The project will compete against other pilots for series pickup consideration for the 2018-19 fall TV season.
False Profits marks the network’s first drama pilot pickup, though ABC has already ordered two drama projects straight-to-series: Take Two starring Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian and Nathan Fillion-led The Rookie.
On the comedy side, the network has picked up Kenya Barris’ untitled family sitcom starring Alec Baldwin straight to series and ordered a pilot for an untitled 1970s-set sitcom from Last Man Standing‘s Tim Doyle.
