Disney and Lucasfilm have narrowed down the search for the starring role of their UNTITLED HAN SOLO SPINOFF. Among the names on the shortlist are a mix of familiar faces of young Hollywood as well as up and coming actors who have the potential to fill the shoes and charisma of the character originated by Harrison Ford.
The names on said list include Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, and Logan Lerman. Emory Cohen from Brooklyn as well as Blake Jenner from Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some are up for the role as well. They are targeting actors between the ages of 20 and 25, but the studio has been testing actors ranging from 17 years old to 34.
Shooting for the film does not begin until January 2017, but producer Kathleen Kennedy and directing team Phil Lord and Chris Miller have decided to get a head start with screen testing. A decision is expected to be made in the upcoming weeks.
Based on Disney and Marvel’s strategy of casting Tom Holland as the new Spider-man early so that he can make a cameo in this year’s Captain America: Civil War has made many speculate that the studio is doing the same with the Han Solo project. The first Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One takes place between Episode III and Episode IV. It is slated is slated to wrap shooting in the upcoming month and it is a prime opportunity for the young Han Solo to make a cameo.
Rogue One is scheduled to be released December 16, 2016. The untitled Han Solo spinoff is set for a May 25, 2018 release.
