Adam Brody, Cicely Tyson, and Elizabeth McGovern have joined the cast of SHOWING ROOTS. The drama, set in 1977, follows two women, Pearl and Violet, (Uzo Aduba and Maggie Grace, respectively) who see their small town rocked by the showing of the acclaimed miniseries Roots and are inspired to integrate their community, only to see pent-up racial tensions erupt in the process. Michael Wilson is directing from Susan Batten’s script.
Brody is set to play Bud, an engineer who arrives to fix the town’s bridge. McGovern will play Shirley, the owner of the beauty shop. Most notably, Tyson, who played Kunta Kinte’s mother in Roots, is onboard as Hattie, Pearl’s grandmother.
Brody, of The O.C. fame, will next be seen in the horror-comedy Yoga Hosers, about two teenage yoga enthusiasts team up with a legendary man-hunter to battle with an ancient evil presence that is threatening their major party plans. Tyson recently appeared in The Help and is attached to the drama Tobacco Valley. McGovern will be seen next in Simon Curtis’ The Woman in Gold, about an octogenarian Jewish refugee who takes on the government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family.
