Star Wars: The Force Awakens’s Adam Driver is set to star in Jim Jarmusch’s next feature, PATERSON. Described as a wry comedy, the film, set in present day Paterson, New Jersey, will be about a bus driver (Driver) and a poet. Writer and director Jarmusch is keeping further details under wraps.
Amazon Studios and K5 International are co-financing. Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani also stars.
K5’s Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur are executive producers and will handle international sales, introducing the project to buyers at the EFM in Berlin in February. ICM Partners will represent the film domestically. Joshua Astrachan at Animal Kingdom and Carter Logan at Inkjet will produce alongside K5.
Driver has been busy since his breakout role on HBO’s Girls. His film credits include Frances Ha, Lincoln, Inside Llewyn Davis, and This Is Where I Leave You. He can currently be seen as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Driver recently completed Martin Scorsese’s Silence opposite Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield and can next be seen in Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special opposite Kirsten Dunst and Michael Shannon.
After success with scripted series like Transparent and Mozart In The Jungle, Amazon Studios has been ramping up its film activities. Its first original film, Spike Lee’s Chi-raq, was released at the end of 2015. The company’s first feature acquisition is Elvis & Nixon, directed by Liza Johnson and starring Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey in the title roles. View the trailer here. Amazon also acquired Whit Stillman period comedy Love & Friendship starring Kate Beckinsale, Chloë Sevigny.
Driver is repped by Gersh. Jarmusch is repped by ICM Partners.
