Noah Baumbach is putting together the cast of his next film, and the Tracking Board hears that the writer-director has his eye on Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Merritt Wever and Azhy Robertson to star.
Plot details are hard to come by, but I’m told that Driver and Johansson will play a married couple (she works in television), and that Robinson will play their young son.
I believe Baumbach is producing the untitled film with David Heyman, and there have been whispers of a distribution deal with Netflix, though I have yet to confirm that element. It would make sense, of course, since Netflix released Baumbach’s latest film, The Meyerowitz Stories, which is expected to be in the mix this awards season, especially in the original screenplay category.
Driver appears in The Meyerowitz Stories, and previously co-starred in Baumbach’s Frances Ha and While We’re Young. He and Dern will soon be seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, while Johansson has Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon. Driver and Johansson recently starred on to star in Spike Lee’s Black Klansman and Focus Features’ Reflective Light, respectively, while Dern is coming off an Emmy win for her delicious turn on HBO’s Big Little Lies. Wever is also an Emmy winner thanks to Nurse Jackie, and she had a small role in Baumbach’s 2010 film Greenberg. She’ll soon be seen in Scott Frank’s Netflix series Godless and Robert Zemeckis’ The Women of Marwen.
CAA reps Dern and Johansson, who is also repped by LBI Entertainment. Driver is repped by Gersh, while Baumbach is repped by UTA. Wever is repped by Innovative Artists and Viking Entertainment. Robertson is repped by CESD and Nani/Saperstein Management.
Representatives for all of the actors listed above either declined to comment, or did not respond to requests for comment.
