Maker Studios has made a first-of-its-kind deal with Adi Shankar, signing the filmmaker to a three picture deal where Maker will fully finance the projects. The first project up is reportedly an animated superhero film. The deal was made by Shankar’s attorney Ashwant Venkatram and Darren Yan, the heads of Maker’s talent partnerships.
Shankar is about to make his directorial debut with the live-action Gods and Secrets starring Kellan Lutz, Jane Seymour, Denise Richards, RJ Mitte, and Dallas Page. Shankar was previously executive produced The Grey and cult hit Dredd. He has made a huge splash on the internet with bootlegs short films including the hugely popular Power/Rangers with James Van Der Beek and Katee Sackhoff.
Disney’s digital company, Maker Studios, oversees such popular YouTube channels as PewDiePie, Consider the Source, and Epic Rap Battles of History. This is the first major investment by Makers to merge their new media empire with the more traditional feature-fold.
