Hasbro is taking a cue from the rampant success of Marvel Cinematic Universe and the growing DC Movie Universe and carving their own place in Hollywood with the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. Academy Award-winner Akiva Goldsman will oversee a team of writers that will build this universe that will include classic Hasbro toy brands G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM. Goldsman was the writer-producer previously tapped by Paramount to oversee the Transformers writers’ room – a project which has resulted in the development of multiple sequels and spinoffs for the blockbuster franchise.
The massive, diverse, and impressive army of writers include Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon, Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman, Under the Dome showrunner Brian K. Vaughan, Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Choker, Spider-Man: Homecoming duo John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, The Dark Tower scribe Jeff Pinkner, Black Panther screenwriter Joe Robert Cole, Blacklist screenwriter Nicole Riegel, and Geneva Robertson, who is on the writing team for the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.
The team will collaborate to create a universe similar to that of the MCU where all the aforementioned brands will interconnect. No word yet on whether or not the previous movies, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, will be folded into this universe.
The movies will be produced by Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures as well as Hasbro’s CEO Brian Goldner and Executive Vice President and CCO Stephen Davis. Josh Feldman will serve as an executive producer.
