Alessandro Nivola Joins the Cause in “Selma”

joins the ever-expanding cast of ’s civil rights drama . The period drama centers on the civil rights movement, particularly focusing on the protests in Selma, Alabama, which were led by Martin Luther King, Jr. who is being portrayed by David Oyelowo. Nivola will play civil rights activist John Doar, who was the Assistant Attorney General for civil rights for the Department of Justice. Also part of the cast are Lenny Kravitz, Liam Neeson, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Oprah.

Nivola is probably best known for his roles in “Face/Off,” “Jurassic Park III,” and “American Hustle” where he played Anthony Amado, the boss of Louis C.K.’s character. Next up for Nivola are roles in crime drama “Facing the Wind” with Vera Farmiga and Evan Rachel Wood, period drama “Bomb” with Elle Fanning and Christina Hendricks, and period drama “A Most Violent Year” with Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac.
