Alexandra Daddario is set to reunite with her San Andreas co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for BAYWATCH, a film adaptation of the iconic ’90s TV series. Daddario takes on the female lead opposite Zac Efron. The pic follows a seasoned lifeguard (Johnson) who becomes partnered with a young hotshot (Efron) to save the beach from an environmental disaster.
Johnson took to Instagram to share the news, saying,
“Want to welcome the talented and gorgeous @alexannadaddario to the cast of #Baywatch for the role of ‘Summer.’ Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can’t wait for you guys to see her own the role.”
Johnson, Beau Flynn, and Ivan Reitman are producing the pic, which was scripted by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who penned the most recent draft. Seth Gordon was recently announced to be directing the film, which eyes an early 2016 start. More casting announcements are sure to arrive soon.
Daddario is best known for her early roles in the Percy Jackson series, where she played Annabeth. Since that time, she’s appeared in a number of high-profile roles ranging from San Andreas to a slew of television roles on series such as True Detective, Parenthood, and White Collar.
Most recently, she appeared opposite Anton Yelchin and Ashley Greene in Joe Dante’s horror/comedy Burying the Ex. Up next, she’ll appear with Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, and Tom Welling in the Nicholas Sparks’ adaptation The Choice.
