Crazy Ex-Girlfriend showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna is teaming with two of the show’s writer/producers, Rachel Specter and Audrey Wauchope, to make a female-driven law enforcement comedy for Paramount Players, Specter and Wauchope will write the untitled comedy with Brosh McKenna producing, but no further details about the premise or plot have been revealed at this time.
After writing a number of films including The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses and We Bought a Zoo, Brosh McKenna successfully transitioned to television as the co-creator, EP and showrunner of the CW musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, currently in its third season. Brosh McKenna also has an overall deal with CBS TV Studios, for which she’s developing a number of projects. Brosh McKenna has also written the screenplay for Disney’s Cruella, a prequel to the popular 101 Dalmations. to which Emma Stone is attached. She also started the #FemaleFilmmakerFriday hashtag to raise awareness for women directors in the entertainment industry. She is represented by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
Specter and Wauchope, repped by UTA, 831 Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson, have been writing together for ten years, joining Crazy Ex-Girlfriend as supervising producers, as well as having sold projects to the CW and ABC and their first feature screenplay Engagement Games to GK Films.
The time seems right for a film like this one and hopefully, the development process at Paramount Players won’t take too long , and the project will be greenlit and cast in a similar timely manner.
