Emerging actress Alison Sudol is set to make her feature debut opposite Eddie Redmayne in Warner Bros.’ FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. The Harry Potter spinoff, which also marks the screenwriting debut of author J.K. Rowling, stars Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander, who arrives in New York City to find and document magical creatures nearly seventy years before Potter. The pic is loosely inspired by Rowling’s book of the same name, which serves as a Hogwarts textbook in the Harry Potter films. Sudol was one of the four actresses eyed for the role this past May.
Sudol will play the role of Queenie, younger sister to Katherine Waterston’s Porpentina. Queenie and her sister encounter Scamander when he arrives in NYC. Ezra Miller will star as a wizard named Kredan, after having been announced to be in talks last month. Scamander’s rival Jacob is still yet to be cast, though Josh Gad and Michael Cera are rumored to be up for the role. Harry Potter series veteran David Yates will direct the fantasy/adventure, which bows on Nov. 18, 2016, kicking off a trilogy.
Sudol is still relatively new to film and television, as she’s best known for her music career as a singer/songwriter with her group A Fine Frenzy. As of late she’s devoted more time to her acting career, most recently starring in the USA series Dig, opposite Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs. Sudol also appeared on Amazon’s Golden Globe-winning series Transparent, which stars Jeffrey Tambor.
The news was first reported by Variety.
